    Annual AB reports and Recommendations.

Sarikakis, K., Chatziefraimidou, A., & Ramadani, G. · The Reboot Project (Reviving, Boosting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness – REBOOT), funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No.101094769.

The aim of Deliverable D1.10, “Annual Advisory Board Reports and Recommendations”, is to

present the insights and recommendations of the Advisory Board members regarding the

REBOOT project’s goal of enhancing the competitiveness of the European film industry. The report presents key industry factors, challenges and opportunities, offering strategic guidance to strengthen the global position of the European film industry.

The Advisory Board members explore the complexity of the term “competitiveness”, defining it as a balance between economic growth and creative freedom. They highlight the key challenges and identify key factors that could lead to the enhancement of the industry’s competitiveness. Additionally, they examine the roles of gender and youth in promoting a more inclusive and equitable film sector. The report also provides policy recommendations to support sustainable growth, innovation and market expansion within the European film industry.

Recommendations on innovation for European film creators.

Sarikakis, K., Biltereyst, D., Ramadani, G., Chatziefraimidou, A., Van Landschoot, J., Haslauer, S., & Zogo, Y.S.C. · Reboot Project (Reviving, Boosting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness – REBOOT), funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101094769.

In the context of analysing the competitiveness of the European film industry related to “Lived practices, principles, cultural institutions and the ‘fringes’ of filmmaking and consumption”, this report examines what is known as the fringes of film and the creative industries, as these often represent underexplored sectors that have the capacity to impact on the overall dynamics of the industry. The working definition of fringes encompasses independent, experimental and niche film production and distribution, which, while sometimes marginalised, play a key role in driving innovation, diversity and cultural expression. These spaces can serve as incubators for new ideas, alternative narratives and diverse voices, pushing the boundaries of mainstream cinema and providing critical insights into emerging trends in the creation of AV storytelling. For the purpose of this report, three communities are taken into consideration across six EU member states (Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Poland and Spain): women, youth and migrants in relation to their positioning within the film industry and their connection to the fringes. To better understand the positioning of these groups within the European film making ecosystem, this report examines national policies, concrete practices available within the industry, as well as the programmes, projects or initiatives (in particular film festivals) undertaken to support these communities in each country.
